A Family Legacy Since 1924
In 1924, Emanuel Gauci opened The Wembley Store in the heart of Valletta. Inspired by the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley that same year, the store stood for quality, international spirit, and refinement from the very beginning.
Offering only the finest foods, Emanuel quickly earned the trust of both locals and British residents, making the shop a landmark known for elegance and excellence.
Resilience and Renewal
During WWII, when the bombs destroyed the Royal Opera House just across from The Wembley Stores, the store was badly damaged, but Emanuel carried on with quiet determination.
Emanuel renovated the store after the war and in 1946, his son Joseph returned from an apprenticeship at Harrods in London, one of the finest and most luxurious department stores in Britain at the time, known for its high-quality goods and exceptional customer service, bringing with him fresh ideas while honouring The Wermbley Store’s traditions.
By 1972, Joseph had formally established Wembley Stores Co Ltd., setting the foundation for future growth.
Modern Stewardship
Today, the store is run by Joseph’s sons, Noel and Christopher, who have brought The Wembley Store into the modern era while preserving its heritage. Their dedication has kept strong ties with artisan suppliers and upheld the values that made the shop special.
101 Years of Excellence
For over a century, The Wembley Store has been a symbol of consistency, taste, and trust. A recent refurbishment blended modern style with its original charm.
As it approaches its final chapter, the store closes with pride — and gratitude to the generations who made it more than just a shop.
